Why this is the highest-leverage action
Without GBP, when a HK buyer types "wall bed Hong Kong" or "隱形翻床 觀塘" into Google or Google Maps, Wallbed by Design does not appear in the local 3-pack regardless of how good the website is. ~70% of high-intent HK local searches go through the 3-pack first.
The site you've built (76 pages, 31 deploy gates, complete trust layer) is dormant traffic-wise until GBP is verified. After verification, every existing search-intent flows through this entry point.
Step 1 — Sign in / create the Google account
- Go to business.google.com
- Sign in with the Google account that should own the listing. Pick carefully — losing this account = losing GBP control.
- If you don't have a business-only Google account yet, create one:
wallbed-hk.com@gmail.com(or similar). Don't use a personal account that could be transferred. - Enable 2FA immediately on this account. GBP hijack is a real attack vector.
Step 2 — Search for "Wallbed by Design" in Google Maps first
An auto-generated GBP listing may already exist (Google sometimes creates these from public records). Two paths:
- If a listing exists: click "Claim this business" → follow the verification flow. Faster.
- If no listing exists: from business.google.com, click "Add your business to Google" and fill in the fields below.

Step 4 — Verify (postcard / phone / video)
Google offers verification methods in this rough order of likelihood for HK furniture stores:
- Postcard (most common) — Google mails a 5-digit code to the showroom address. ~10 days. Don't move premises during this window.
- Phone (offered for some categories) — Google calls/texts the listed phone with a code. Faster.
- Video (newer option) — Google asks for a short video of the storefront with signage visible. May be offered.
- Email (rare for furniture) — only offered if Google can confirm the email is on a verified domain.
Once verified, the listing goes live in Maps + 3-pack within ~24 hours. Don't edit core fields (name, category, address) for the first 30 days — Google sometimes flags new listings that change immediately.
Step 5 — Photo upload checklist
GBP listings with 10+ photos rank meaningfully higher in 3-pack. Upload these in order:
- Logo (1:1 ratio, ≥720×720, PNG with transparent background ideal)
- Cover photo (16:9, ≥1080×608, hero of the showroom-floor wall bed install)
- Showroom storefront (the entrance with signage visible — also useful for video verification later)
- Showroom interior (3-5 angles)
- Mechanism close-ups (2-3 of the SBLM hinge in deployed + stowed states)
- Install before/after (with the consented install photos already on /trust.html, /materials-provenance.html etc — only owner-released ones)
- Team photo if/when you collect one
Reuse the photo policy in /photo-policy.html — owner consent only, EXIF stripped.
Step 6 — Wire the GBP back to the site
- Once verified, get the Place ID (long alphanumeric) from Google's Place ID Finder.
- Update /reviews-collection.html Step 1 with the real placeid → write-review URL.

- Update /known-issues.html — close the "AggregateRating placeholder" issue once 10+ real reviews come in.
Common gotchas
- Don't list a residential address. Service-area-only businesses are allowed in HK but mixed-use addresses (residential + commercial) flag review.
- Don't add "wall bed" / "Murphy bed" to the business name field. Keep the name clean; categories handle the keyword discovery.
- Don't claim multiple categories beyond 9. 1 primary + 5–8 secondary is the sweet spot; more dilutes ranking.
- Suspended? Don't submit appeals from a different account. Always work from the verified owner account.
