Hong Kong Bed Size Guide — 尺寸表 (cm / 尺 / feet)
Hong Kong bed sizing is confusing because we mix British imperial (feet), Chinese 尺, and metric (cm) — sometimes in the same sentence. This guide gives you the exact dimensions for every common HK bed size, explains the 尺 system, and shows how wall bed sizes compare. Use the table below to find your size, then check your room.
The complete HK bed size chart
These are the standard mattress sizes sold in Hong Kong furniture stores (Pricerite, IKEA, Sealy, Simmons, DSC, local workshops). Dimensions shown in width × length.
| Size name | Width × Length (cm) | 尺 (feet) | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single 單人床 | 91 × 190 cm | 3' × 6'3" | 1 child / 1 adult (compact) |
| Super Single | 107 × 190 cm | 3'6" × 6'3" | 1 adult (comfortable) |
| Small Double / 3/4 細雙人床 | 122 × 190 cm | 4' × 6'3" | 1 adult + space, or tight couple |
| Double 雙人床 | 137 × 190 cm | 4'6" × 6'3" | 2 adults (most common HK double) |
| Queen 大床 | 152 × 203 cm | 5' × 6'8" | 2 adults (comfortable) |
| King 特大床 | 183 × 203 cm | 6' × 6'8" | 2 adults + child / pet |
Some HK retailers round dimensions slightly (e.g., 140 cm instead of 137 cm for double, 150 cm instead of 152 cm for queen). Always confirm the exact cm measurement before buying sheets or ordering a custom frame. A 3 cm difference can mean fitted sheets won't stay on.
The 尺 system explained (why HK says "4.5尺床")
In Hong Kong, many people and shops refer to bed sizes by width in 尺 (Chinese feet, equivalent to imperial feet = 30.48 cm). When someone says "我要4.5尺床", they mean a bed 137 cm wide. Here's the quick conversion:
- 3尺床 = 91 cm wide = Single
- 3.5尺床 = 107 cm wide = Super Single
- 4尺床 = 122 cm wide = Small Double / 3/4
- 4.5尺床 = 137 cm wide = Double (the most common HK couple bed)
- 5尺床 = 152 cm wide = Queen
- 6尺床 = 183 cm wide = King
Length is less commonly discussed in 尺, but the two standard HK lengths are 6'3" (190 cm) for older flats and 6'8" (203 cm) for queen/king. If you are taller than 175 cm, insist on the 203 cm length — 190 cm leaves your feet hanging.
Wall bed sizes available in Hong Kong
Wall beds (murphy beds / 隱藏床 / 翻床) come in the same standard widths, but the cabinet is slightly wider than the mattress to allow the folding mechanism and side panels. Here's what to expect:
| Wall bed size | Mattress (cm) | Cabinet width | Min ceiling height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 91 × 190 | ~100 cm | 2.1 m |
| Small Double (4尺) | 122 × 190 | ~132 cm | 2.1 m |
| Double (4.5尺) | 137 × 190 | ~147 cm | 2.1 m |
| Queen (5尺) | 152 × 203 | ~163 cm | 2.3 m |
| King (6尺) | 183 × 203 | ~194 cm | 2.4 m |
The most popular wall bed size in Hong Kong is 4.5尺 (137 cm double) — it sleeps two adults in a room that's too small for a permanent bed, and the cabinet is narrow enough for most HK bedroom walls. Queen (5尺) is the second choice for couples who have a slightly larger room. For a detailed couples-focused comparison, see our Double vs Queen wall bed guide for HK couples. See our services page for pricing by size.
Minimum room size for each bed
Before buying any bed, check whether your room can physically fit it. Here's the minimum room dimension for each bed type, accounting for walking space and a wardrobe:
Standard bed (permanent)
- Single (91 cm): Room ≥ 1.5 m × 2.5 m (typical HK public housing bedroom)
- Double (137 cm): Room ≥ 2.0 m × 2.8 m
- Queen (152 cm): Room ≥ 2.2 m × 3.0 m
- King (183 cm): Room ≥ 2.5 m × 3.2 m (needs a master bedroom)
Wall bed (folded when not in use)
- Single wall bed: Wall ≥ 110 cm wide, floor clearance 200 cm when down. Room ≥ 1.8 m × 2.0 m.
- Double (4.5尺) wall bed: Wall ≥ 155 cm wide, floor clearance 200 cm when down. Room ≥ 2.0 m × 2.2 m. This is the sweet spot for HK flats.
- Queen (5尺) wall bed: Wall ≥ 170 cm wide, floor clearance 210 cm when down. Room ≥ 2.2 m × 2.5 m.
The advantage of a wall bed is clear: a double wall bed in a 2 m × 2.2 m room gives you back ~2.6 m² of floor space during the day — enough for a desk, a yoga mat, or a child's play area. See our domestic helper room wall bed guide for the tightest-space scenarios.
Common HK bed size mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- "Double" means different things. A UK Double is 135 cm; a US Double (Full) is 137 cm; an EU Double is 140 cm. In HK, expect 137 cm but verify. If buying sheets from Taobao, check whether they mean 1.35 m or 1.5 m — Chinese "double" (双人) is often 150 cm, which is closer to a HK queen.
- King isn't universal. A HK King (183 cm) is smaller than a US King (193 cm) or California King (183 × 213 cm). If you buy a US king sheet set, it will be too wide for a HK king mattress.
- Measure the door and lift first. A 183 cm × 203 cm king mattress may not fit through a standard HK flat door (usually 75–80 cm wide) or in a typical domestic lift. Many king mattresses are delivered rolled (foam) or require hoisting. Plan this before ordering.
- The 6'3" vs 6'8" length trap. Some HK shops sell 190 cm length; others sell 203 cm. A 203 cm mattress in a frame built for 190 cm won't fit. Always match mattress length to your bed frame or cabinet spec exactly.
- Wall bed thickness matters. Wall beds need mattresses ≤ 30 cm thick. A standard spring mattress (22–28 cm) is fine; a premium pillow-top (32+ cm) may not fold. See our mattress fit guide for brand-by-brand compatibility.
Quick reference: HK bed sizes at major retailers
- IKEA Hong Kong: Uses European sizes — Single 80 × 200 cm (smaller than HK single!), Queen 150 × 200 cm, King 180 × 200 cm. Different from HK standard. Their mattresses may not fit HK-made bed frames.
- Pricerite / DSC: Sells HK-standard sizes (91, 122, 137, 152 cm widths). Safe to mix with local frames.
- Sealy / Simmons (HK): Uses the HK/international system. Queen = 152 × 203 cm, King = 183 × 203 cm.
- Taobao / mainland brands: Often labelled in metres — 1.2 m ≈ 4尺, 1.35 m ≈ 4.5尺, 1.5 m ≈ 5尺, 1.8 m ≈ 6尺. Length is usually 2.0 m (longer than old HK 1.9 m standard).
